About the treatment

When the upper teeth have been missing for a long time, or dentures have been worn for years, the bone of the upper jaw shrinks. Ordinary implants then have too little bone to hold on to, and the usual answer is bone grafting or a sinus lift, which adds months of healing.

A zygomatic implant is a longer implant that passes through the upper jaw and anchors in the zygoma, the cheekbone, which keeps its density even when the jaw bone has gone. Two or four zygomatic implants, often combined with regular implants at the front, can support a full fixed arch of upper teeth.

Because the cheekbone gives firm support, a fixed temporary bridge can often be fitted within days of surgery, and many patients avoid grafting altogether. It is specialised surgery, so every case is planned in detail on a CBCT scan first.

At Sterling

What makes zygomatic implants different here

01

Specialist training

Dr. Tarun Kumar Giroti trained in zygoma implants for the severely resorbed upper jaw in 2014, and has placed 12,000+ implants.

02

3D CBCT planning

The cheekbone, sinus and nerves are mapped in 3D, so the angle and length of each implant are decided before surgery.

03

Sedation available

Longer procedures can be done under sedation, or general anaesthesia given by an anaesthetist.

04

In-house lab

The temporary and final bridges are designed and made at Sterling.

Questions

Zygomatic Implants: common questions

What is a zygomatic implant?+

A longer dental implant anchored in the cheekbone (zygoma) instead of the upper jawbone. It is used when the upper jaw has too little bone for ordinary implants.

Will I need a bone graft?+

Usually not. Avoiding bone grafting and a sinus lift is the main reason zygomatic implants are chosen.

Will I get fixed teeth straight away?+

Often, yes. A fixed temporary bridge is usually fitted within days of surgery, and the final bridge after healing.

Can zygomatic implants be used in the lower jaw?+

No. The cheekbone only supports the upper jaw. Lower-jaw cases are planned with other implant options.

What does it cost?+

A zygomatic implant is ₹70,000 per implant. The bridge, and any regular implants placed with them, are quoted with it after a CBCT scan. Message us on WhatsApp with your scan or X-ray for a first opinion.
